Can Asake win all these people back? That’s a different topic for another day. People have moved on quickly from ‘Yoga’. The bad side of the experiment, though, is that the buzz he was getting last year after each release has strangely disappeared. The good side of the experiment, however, is that he is now fully aware that his audience don’t want that kind of vibes from him. Although there’s presence of amazing songwriting, but it’s missing the Asake ‘flavour’ we all know.
Prince of Afrobeats, as he’s fondly called by his fans, has put out his first two singles for the year 2023, one of which is the Blaise Beatz-produced ‘Holiday’. It’s Asake’s first attempt at leaving his comfort zone, trademark sound. ‘Yoga’ sounds much different from his identity sound. Why is ‘Yoga’ not as successful as his other songs? Unlike songs such as ‘Omo Ope’, ‘Sungba’, ‘Peace Unto You’ and Organise’, ‘Yoga’ spent the least days at the top 3 of Apple Music Nigeria. If you are a lover of Asake’s music, you should agree with me that of all his singles released from 2022 to date, ‘Yoga’ is the least popular. I have listened to almost all Asake’s songs (as a matter of fact, his debut album ‘Mr Money With The Vibe’ was my favorite album last year), but I have not heard anything as worse as ‘ Yoga’. ‘Yoga’ by Asake has been his worst song since it came out.
